Previous Events

The 1 st Pre-College Engineering Event (PCED), held on April 28, 1995 , brought together close to 80 students from 5 different high schools in the New York City area. The 2nd PCED brought together close to 140 students from 7 different high schools. As part of the activities the students did a team project in which each team designed a shock absorber apparatus, the best design was rewarded with prizes for each of the team members.

The 3rd Annual PCED brought together students from 11 different high schools from the New York City area. This time, our event became part of the Pre-College event for the Regional Student Leadership Conference 1997 ( RSLC ), which was organized in collaboration with Manhattan College , Cooper Union and Polytechnic University SHPE chapters. The group with the best design for the Team Project was invited to attend the RSLC banquet, in Tarrytown , NY , where the students had the opportunity to hear a motivational speech, meet representatives from different corporations who sponsored the event, and mingle with engineering students and professionals.

The 4th Annual PCED brought together close to 125 students from 7 different high schools from the New York City area. This time, a variety of improved workshops included: Job Skills and Marketing Yourself, Managing Yourself/Leading Others, Opportunities in the Federal Government, Valuing Ourselves, Our Culture, Minorities in Engineering, and information sessions on College Admissions and Financial Aid.

The 5th Annual PCED was larger and more successful than previous Events. Our goal was to bring a minimum of 180 students from different high schools around New York City . On the 6th Pre-College Event, new and improved workshops as well as tours of our engineering labs were valuable parts of the event. The 7th Annual event, we invited not only public but also high prestige private High Schools within New York .
