About
Eighteen years ago, the Latin American Engineering Student Association chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (LAESA-SHPE), with the concern for the high dropout rate of Latinos in high school and their low representation in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields, organized a yearly Pre-College Event to encourage students to finish high school and consider careers in the STEM fields. This event gives the students an opportunity to participate in a number of activities that give them leadership, professionalism, interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as valuable career and financial aid information.
